"Feedback has been positive from the managers and leaders who attended. The pace of the course was good, with lots of interactivity and exercises and learning that came together like pieces of a jigsaw fitting together," says Alex Pratt.

"Clarion already explores people’s communication styles as part of the induction process, along with exploring what motivates them, and have found to be very helpful – as an example, when a manager who is motivated by working with people does not have direct reports to work with, this has a direct impact on their motivation."

The programme developed this further and has given managers greater confidence with their direct reports. "Managers have increased confidence in how to structure 1-to-1s and ask effective questions to get the most from them. It has also boosted morale generally across our senior leadership team."

The biggest concern that Alex had before the training began was whether the learning would be implemented by the team. "I often find in training it's great for a week or so, but bad habits then creep back in and the training benefit is lost."

However, because of the style of Happy's training and with so many managers attending the programme, they have continued to learn and support each other. "Something I am seeing more and more is watching the managers implement what they have learnt and then talk about it. There is a real buzz, and because it was shared learning, they can all discuss issues and solve them as a group."

Clarion continues to monitor the results from the programme and its success, with a six-month pulse survey planned to see the longer-term effect it has had on the leaders and those they work with.

"Happy were flexible, understood what we wanted to achieve, and are just good people. I'd definitely recommend Happy to others for leadership training."

Happy is continuing to work with Clarion Events, with another Happy Leadership Programme planned to embed the learning further across the teams.
