Join our movement to create happy workplaces

Imagine a workplace where people are in control of the work they do. Imagine they have freedom, within clear guidelines, to achieve their results. Imagine they are able to have the life balance they want. Imagine they are accountable for the work they do, rather than the time they spend at their desk.

This is what we mean when we talk about happy workplaces — organisations where staff feel trusted and have freedom within clear guidelines to do their work.

This will be a hybrid event we will host up to 50 people in the venue at Happy's HQ in Aldgate, London, and up to 200 people online via Zoom. The speakers will be a mix of online and in person.

The online event will be facilitated by Henry Stewart, with breakout rooms during discussion time, while Maureen Egbe will facilitate the face-to-face session at Happy. Both attendees online and in person will have the opportunity to ask questions and join the discussion.

However you choose to join this year's event, there will be interaction, discussion, space for reflection and opportunities to network with others.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to buy your tickets, or contact our friendly team. Tickets at Happy are priced at £395/£350/£300, and online at £195/£125/£95, depending on sector (not including VAT).

Michele Zanini: Co-founder of the Management Lab

Building Organisations that Enable Extraordinary Accomplishment

‌A deep sense of accomplishment drives happiness at work. This is often found in environments where...

  • Employees are united in a shared mission that merits heartfelt commitment;
  • Ambitious goals and tight timelines challenge everyone to do more with less;
  • Roles are broadly conceived with plenty of scope for personal growth;
  • Teams are small, roles are loosely defined, and policies are flexible;
  • Everyone is “customer facing” and accountable for real-world impact;
  • People feel part of a densely connected, collaborative community;
  • Team members are unencumbered by unnecessary layers and processes;
  • Employees think and act like owners.

‌In other words, in organisations that are bold, simple, lean, open, flat, and free. These are not the worlds to describe the typical large company, with its authoritarian power structures and rule-chocked processes. Thankfully, it doesn’t have to be this way. Bureaucracy, with its toxic side effects on happiness and productivity, is a choice. There are better ways to lead, manage, and organize. During this session, we’ll dive into these alternative models and unpack what they mean for you and your company.

Michele Zanini is the co-founder of the Management Lab, an organisation dedicated to developing knowledge, technology and tools to support breakthrough management innovation. The goal: to help large organisations become more daring, resilient, creative, and inspiring places to work. He is co-author of the Wall Street Journal bestselling book, Humanocracy: Creating Organizations as Amazing as the People Inside them (Harvard Business Review Press, 2020; 2nd edition due out in 2024).
