Overview of the Sessions
Using Formulas to Analyse Your Data
If you’re already familiar with SUM, basic calculations and absolute cell references, then this session will take you onto the next steps with calculations including statistical and analysis functions.

What you will learn:
- Using the Paste Function
- Common Functions: Average, Min and Max
- Conditional Formatting
- Using Basic If Function

Using Multiple Worksheets
This session looks at working on workbooks with more than one sheet. You’ll lean how to use grouping to work more efficiently, how to calculate using cells from different sheets and you’ll learn how to create a summary multiple data sheets.
Requirements: You will need to be confident setting up a spreadsheet and performing basic calculations. If you are not confident with this please see our session on basic formulas.
What you will learn:
- Grouping across Sheets
- Linking Formulas across Sheets
- Consolidation
Range Names
This 90-minute session is designed for Excel users who are confident with the basics of Excel, wishing to take the next steps in formula writing. Most Excel users are familiar with writing formulas that reference cells by their column letter and row number. Although common this is not usually the best way!
Range names can be used in place of cell references, making formulas easier to write and understand as cells are 'named' by the user.
Requirements: You must be confident with writing basic formulas both by using Autosum and writing formulas from scratch.
You must also be confident using Autofill to copy formulas while using Absolute Cell References to fix key cell references in your copied formulas (using the dollar sign i.e. =SUM(A2:A14*$B$1).
If you are not confident, consider attending our 90-minute Introduction to Excel: Creating Formulas course.
What you will learn:
- The benefits of using Range Names instead of cell references to fix cells in formulas.
- Applying newly created Range Names to a formula you have already written.
- Editing or deleting Range Names
- If there's time: Using Range Names for navigation
You can also mix and match with our other Live Online Learning courses: Introduction to Excel, Excel for Intermediate Users: Pivot Tables and Charts (though do check course requirements before booking), Word for Intermediate Users, and Outlook for Intermediate Users. We have also developed a range of Live Online Learning for our Leadership and Personal Development programmes that you may be interested in.

We can tailor the content to your team, and host the training remotely, at your workplace or here at Happy's HQ in Aldgate, Central London.
The Small Print
The course will run remotely for 90 minutes.
All learners will need to install Zoom on their machines. Full technical requirements are on the Zoom website. Your link will be included in your joining instructions once you have booked your place — if you haven't received this email then please contact our team.
Learners should log into the training session 10 minutes before the start time to ensure that they have downloaded and set up Zoom correctly. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals.
Your active participation is expected: everyone will be heard and seen throughout, just as they would be if we were in a room together. To be heard, hear and seen you will need a microphone, speakers and camera – if you have a modern laptop that’s all you will need. Remember, you’ll need a quiet place to call from and a decent internet connection is a must.
