If you’re brand new to Word and word processing software, or want to build your confidence, this is the course for you. In this beginner level one-day course, you will learn all the essential features to be able to create and alter simple documents, such as letters, memos and reports.
This course is only available for private bookings, either for groups or as a one-to-one, held online via Zoom or in the classroom. Please get in touch for availability.

Course Overview
This Introduction to Word course can be held either in the classroom or online as Live Online Learning. The outline for both formats is the same, however the classroom session offers more time with the trainer to work on exercises, ask questions and complete activities.

What you will learn
By the end of this beginner level one-day Word course, you will be able to:
- Create, save and find documents using Word
- Add text, format it and check it for mistakes
- Move around easily in a Word document
- Move text around
- Format text – including the use of styles
- Insert and edit pictures
- Change the page layout – including margins, headers and footers and page breaks
- Print your document
Course Timetable
Session 1: Working with Word Documents & Corrections
This session teaches you how to create documents from scratch. You will also learn how to check spelling, grammar and more in Word. Did you know you can undo or redo changes even after you have saved your file?
- Open, find, save and close your document
- Create a new document
- Add text
- Use Undo and Redo
- Move around inside a Word document
- Spellcheck
Session 2: Automatic Formatting
Learn how to copy text from anywhere and paste them correctly in your document. We will show you how to use the Format Painter to automatically apply same formatting to multiple areas within your document. Learn how to add visual interest to your Word document by creating Number or bullet list.

Session 3: Images, Page Setup & Printing
This session will show you how to insert images into your document so it livens your documents in seconds. You will learn how to add page numbers to each page of your document.

- Change the way text flows around the picture
- Add a Header or Footer
- Add Page Numbers
- Use Page Breaks
- Print your document
This course will be taught in the latest version of the software. We can train this in older versions if needed – please get in touch for more information and availability.
Information for Mac users
If you are a Mac user, please let us know when booking. If the course is held in the classroom at Happy, the training is held on PCs so we recommend that you bring your Macbook with you (we are not able to provide an additional monitor). For online training, please let us know when booking and you can use your Mac as normal. We provide a PDF with shortcuts for Mac users and your trainer will refer to this throughout the training.

For Live Online Interactive Learning sessions (webinars)
The course will run remotely for a full day consisting of three 90-minute live online sessions with independent work in between.
All learners will need to install Zoom on their machines. Full technical requirements are on the Zoom website. Your link will be included in your joining instructions once you have booked your place — if you haven't received this email then please contact our team.
Learners should log into the training session 10 minutes before the start time to ensure that they have downloaded and set up Zoom correctly. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals.

For classroom sessions
All public classroom sessions take place at Happy's HQ in London at Robert Dolan House, 9 Alie Street, London E1 8DE. Please see our Contact Us page for full directions and a PDF map.
The course will run from 10am to 4:45pm (lunch is served 1pm to 1:45pm — we offer a choice of 3 cold bowl dishes). Please be careful to arrive by 9:45am for registration and refreshments. The course will start precisely on time and it may not be possible to go back over material missed by late arrivals. If you arrive over 30 minutes late you may be asked to leave and attend another day.
