The fifth annual Happy Workplaces Conference took place in London on June 14, 2017. The conference looked at how engaged workplaces are more profitable and incur lower costs, as well as the tendency for happy workplaces to have higher staff retention, offer more flexibility and be more productive. Here are 10 essential takeaways from the conference.
Arnaud Collery is the Tech X Happiness speaker and Chief Happiness Officer is known as ‘Mister Happiness’. In this talk from the 2023 Happy Workplaces Conference, Arnaud explains the currency of personal authenticity. Using examples from his own life and the experiences of those he coaches around the world, he describes how a process of continual self-evaluation and reinvention can bring you to your ‘authentic self’ – a person that is recognised and valued both within and outside of the workplace.

Happy provides a Level 3 programme for first-time managers, team leaders and supervisors, a Level 5 programme for more experienced managers and department leaders, and a Level 7 programme designed for senior leaders who want to make a real cultural change in their workplace. These programmes have a focus on trusting your people and creating a culture of self-management. They are funded by the Apprenticeship Levy.
In June, Happy hosted our annual 2017 Happy Workplaces CEO Conference in London. Here are the top 10 take-aways from the attendees on the day.
“The programme only finished last month but I feel like it has had a massive impact. They are working so much more effectively as a group now,” says Anne Clarke, Senior Vice President People and Culture at Revantage.

Blue Cross is a charity that really understands the benefit of personal development. The Chief Executive, Sally de la Bedoyere, recognised that people need to grow and flourish, and that seeing mastery develop really gives people motivation. Happy delivered 23 individual one-off coaching sessions for the senior leadership team to aid their personal development. This was an exciting project and surprisingly the first of its kind that we have been asked to do.
“Since working with Happy we have seen a huge shift in the culture. I don’t know how you measure it, but people are more cordial, more collegial and talk to each other more, as people who have been through something together.”
Held at the National Audit Office in February 2017, the one-day Creating Happy Workplaces in the Public Sector Conference focused on change within the public sector and looked at how to create a culture of trust and happiness. Here are ten essential takeaways from the event.
